Clinical staff such as physicians, behaviorists, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, medical students, and case managers.

Activity Goal

The goal of this interactive activity is to provide learners with common clinical and cross-cultural scenarios that build a framework of knowledge and skills for delivering quality care to diverse patient populations.

Learner Objectives/Outcomes - At the conclusion of the activity, learners will be able to:

• Explain basic concepts and legal issues, including requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
• Apply skills learned to be able to show respect for people with disabilities.
• Evaluate different types of disability and what accommodations may be necessary in the workplace or when providing services to people with disabilities.
• Practice effective communication strategies to engage in a way that is respectful of people with disabilities.

This activity is designed to address the following ACGME/ABMS, IOM, and IEC competencies: Patient care and procedural skills, interpersonal and communicationskills, professionalism, provide patient-centered care, and interprofessional communication.

Physicians

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of Tufts University School of Medicine (TUSM) and Quality Interactions.
