Target Audience

Clinical staff such as physicians, behaviorists, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, medical students, and case managers.

Activity Goal

The goal of this interactive activity is to provide learners with common clinical and cross-cultural scenarios that build a framework of knowledge and skills for delivering quality care to diverse patient populations.

Learner Objectives/Outcomes - At the conclusion of the activity, learners will be able to:

  • Outline the unique challenges healthcare organizations face in providing and managing care for the Medicare population.
  • Explain the social and cultural issues most relevant for the diverse Medicare population.
  • Practice effective communication across cultures and generations.
  • Develop appropriate management strategies that consider cultural perspectives and preferences.

This activity is designed to address the following ACGME/ABMS, IOM, and IEC competencies: Patient care and procedural skills, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, provide patient-centered care, and interprofessional communication.
